I've had this CD game since Win98 and found it totally addictive. When I upgraded to newer versions of Windows (ME, 2000, then XP), I found that the game would not run on these operating systems.I recently upgraded from XP to Vista Home Premium and decided to try the CD one more time. I opted to set the compatibility for the game's.exe to Windows 98 and big surprise, the game plays wonderfully.Just thought I'd let every fan of Upwards PC know this.
I've had my "UpWords" CD for just over three (3) years now, and it's a good thing you can't wear out CDs because otherwise I would have worn out my "UpWords" CD a LONG time ago because I play it so much. The only thing I had to do to be able to play it on XP was to run XP's compatibility function to get the game to work on XP. Mary Landesman, speak for yourself, Ms.
I have other CD-ROM games, but I never play those. At least THIS "UpWords" gamer doesn't find it insulting in the least.As tesla in N.C. Too bad it's been discontinued because I'd like to get an extra copy.
L., because this CD-ROM version is neither an insult to Hasbro, nor is it an insult to "UpWords" gamers. I just keep my "UpWords" disc in my PC's disk drive. I just wish Hasbro would come out with an updated version and that the human player could challenge the computer the way the computer can challenge the human player, that's all.As for Ms.
has no doubt found out by now, since she wrote her inquiry over a year ago, yes, this CD-ROM CAN be played on Windows XP because that's the OS I have, too. Once I did that, it's run just fine.
It says 95 or 98 and I wanted to make sure I could use it before buying.
This is the best game in the world. I really enjoy playing it. it is alot of fun.
But still, it's great fun. The thing that threw me off is that there are no points for specific letters, so a Z is scored the same as an E.
I enjoy board games, especially Scrabble, but I've never played Upwords before. There are ten skill levels.
I bought this game a year ago and finally got around to playing it today. This is an entirely different strategy.
I played the computer at level 5. I'm an expert Scrabble player but I won one game about out of the twenty that I played.
I'm afraid to play this game too much as I think it might hurt my Scrabble game. I'm waiting for a weekend when I snowed in by a blizzard, then I'll beat the darn thing.
